Abisko Arctic Reindeer - Sami experience

MEET THE REINDEER HERDERS OF THE ARCTIC

Step into the world of the Sami people and discover one of the oldest living cultures in northern Scandinavia.

After a short transfer from Abisko, we travel by snowshoe through peaceful winter landscapes to reach a remote reindeer enclosure away from the main tourist routes.

There, you will meet a Sami reindeer herder who will introduce you to the traditions of reindeer husbandry and explain how the relationship between the Sami people and their animals has shaped life in the Arctic for generations.

You will have the opportunity to feed the reindeer, observe their behaviour up close, and ask questions about Sami culture and everyday life.

After spending time with the herd, we gather inside a traditional Sami lavvu around an open fire. Hot drinks and snacks are served while stories and knowledge are shared in an authentic and relaxed atmosphere.

The winter months occasionally offer a chance to see the Northern Lights on the way back, depending on weather and conditions.

Itinerary

• 14:45 – Meeting at Abisko Mountain Lodge reception
• 15:00 Snowshoe walk to the reindeer enclosure
• Reindeer feeding and Sami cultural experience
• Fire and snacks inside the lavvu
• Return to Abisko
• Total duration: approximately 3 hours

There is no hotel pick-up for this tour.

Please meet your guide at the reception of Abisko Mountain Lodge 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

The guide will provide the necessary equipment before departing for the experience.

During October and November, the use of snowshoes depends on snow conditions. If there is not enough snow on the ground, the experience will be operated as a regular hike instead of a snowshoe tour.

The route, activities, and overall experience remain the same, allowing you to enjoy the reindeer encounter, Sami cultural experience, and Arctic landscapes regardless of snow conditions.

We understand that travel plans can change. Please read our cancellation policy carefully before booking.

Guest Cancellation:

• More than 30 days before the tour: You will receive a 100% refund of the total booking amount.

• Between 30 days and 3 days before the tour: No refund will be issued. However, you may reschedule your tour to another available date during the current season or the following season, subject to availability. The tour price will remain the same, regardless of any price changes.

Cancellation by Abisko Mountain Lodge:

If we need to cancel a tour due to unsafe weather conditions or other circumstances beyond our control, you may choose one of the following options:

• Join an alternative tour that we recommend (subject to availability).

• Reschedule your tour to another available date during your stay.

• Receive a 100% full refund.
